Sick Kids Stink!

So one sick kid is manageable, 2 sick kids-now I’m out numbered, and 3 sick kids is just too many!  The little boys got the crud- we’ve had quite a month in the Green household.  This one they’ve been doing ok with, but they just sound miserable!  All three of them got this nasty lingering cough, but AJ sounded like a little mouse for 2 days.  You could barely hear him he was so squeaky.  And then there’s Carson, well, Carson, he’s been a bit of a pill lately.  Not only is the poor thing sick, but he’s cutting a new tooth and yesterday it’s possible that he ate a few beans from the game “Spill the Beans”.  Where was I?  On the phone & I was multi-tasking.  In my defense, I have an AJ and I didn’t know he had moved the game to the floor-which is fair game for my one year old! 😀

So with all the poor sick babies, I’ve been busy trying to keep my Carson from crying in his misery.  Here was my attack plan from 2 days ago:

A little pear goes a long way….

Then today he got a bubble bath.  I thought that was a sure fire, but his bliss was only temporary.  He did learn the hard way that the harder you splash, the more risk of getting soap in the eye… 😦

The Mind of a 4-Year-Old

This was just way too funny not to share!  I’m so sorry if you find this in the TMI category.

So for Christmas AJ and Ry got these hot wheels that change colors with cold water.  Well, after trying really, really cold water over and over again without changing colors, Ryan suggested that we try warm water.  Hmm, there’s an idea… it worked!   They get a bowl of warm water and a bowl of cold water and they come up with new designs on their color changing cars.  They love it and could do it everyday:)

Tonight AJ’s doing the pee pee dance, if you have a preschooler, you’ve seen it.  I tell him to go to the bathroom.  But before he goes, he asks, “Is pee pee warm?”  (Do you see where he’s going with this?)  I’m thinking uh-oh.  I reply, “No, AJ, you cannot pee on your color changing car.”  ….You’ve gotta love the mind of a 4-year-old!

Chris has been watching his Dodgers play in the playoffs.    They just swept the St. Louis Cardinals.  Here is the picture story of Game 3:

I Finished!

I recently finished a women’s bible study at my church, Northern Hills, called Stepping Up by Beth Moore.  This was especially exciting for me because out of the several studies I’ve done either in a small or large group setting I’ve never finished every page.  There were always a few (or more) blank pages of homework.  I made a commitment to get up every morning at 6:00am to meet with God at the beginning of my day instead of when I got around to it.  Anyone who has ever spent more than 10 minutes with me knows that I am NOT a get up in the wee early morning type of gal.  I have to be honest and say that it didn’t happen every morning, especially when we were back in Neb visiting family.  However, I got up many more days than not.

Briefly, this was a study of the Psalms of Ascent, Psalms 120-134.  These Psalms were sung on the pilgrimage to the Three Great Feasts.   Each Psalm that they sang were also sang and connected to the 15 steps of the temple.  After each Psalm of Ascent, Ms. Moore, had us write a one sentence summary of what touched us most from each Psalm on a stair graphic in the back of the book.  I’ve felt led to share them.

Psalm 120:  I want to feel at home.

Psalm 121:  My God protects me.

Psalm 122:  I am glad to enter my church!

Psalm 123:  I lift my eyes to you, Lord.   I give you my attention and wait expectantly.

Psalm 124:  God has always/ will always be for me.

Psalm 125:  My trust in God is like Mount Everest.

Psalm 126:  I will sow in tears BUT will reap with shouts of JOY!

Psalm 127:  “Nisi Dominus Frusta.”

Psalm 128:  I will revere the Lord and walk in His ways.

Psalm 129:  When feeling attacked-they won’t get the best of me.

Psalm 130:  There is faithful love in our Lord!

Psalm 131:  (I desire to sit with the Lord) Calm like a weaned baby, like a little child with his mom.

Psalm 132:  I want to be in God’s presence-all the time!

The second part of Psalm 132:  His holy people will shout for joy!

Psalm 133:  Harmony and unity are blessings.

Psalm 134 was different.  She asked us to write a blessing for over a group of people.

Sisters, I’m praying that you allow God to fully transform your hearts and  your lives-no longer live for this world, but live for the next, taking as many as you can with us.  Accept God’s abundant grace and experience life to the fullest for Him.  When times of trial come, sow in tears, allow God to mold, and keep the promise that we will reap with shouts of joy!  In Christ’s name, Amen.

Things I hear on any given day…

“Do you see that big tornado with dust and debris?

“This is Rocky Canyon, there is an avalanche making fire in the mountains!  Copy that.”

“AJ, let’s color together.”

“He’s (Carson) so happy, Mama!”

“I made it just for my brother.”

“My baby is so cute!”

“Mama!  Come see what I built!  I’m good at building.”

“Oh no!  I see a tornado touching down in the east!”

“Good team work!”

“You’re right, Ryan, you’re right!”

“Yummy, yummy gummy worms!” (peas-I know, I don’t get it either.)

“So how is your day, Mama?”

While listening to Klove:  “Hey!  That’s psalm 106!”  (No kidding!  That came out of my 3-yr mouth!)

“Did you know water makes me happy?”  (Again my 3-yr old!)

“Did you know milk makes me silly?” (Guess who?)

“Mama, is that cool or what?”

“What do you want to be when you grow up, Mama”

To which I’d have to reply, “A Mama!”
…love being a mom!

Kroger Mac & Cheese Taste Test

I wanted to really see what the BIG difference is between the various Kroger Mac & Cheeses.  So last night we had a taste test.  Now currently (from my memory-which isn’t saying a whole lot) we have the Value box at around 3/$1, but I think they just raised it a bit.  The Original for about $.50/box and Kroger’s Rich ‘n Creamy for around $.90/box.  While I would’ve liked to add a Kraft box to the test, my limit is under $1/box preferably around $.50.  Now if I have a coupon…that’s a different story, but it still has to be cheaper than the Kroger brand.

So all the boys (minus Carson-we’re still working with rice cereal:) voted for the Rich ‘n Creamy.  And I preferred the Original, which took me by surprise.  Also, the Rich ‘n Creamy took twice as long to stir, which of course can be a factor when feeding ravenous boys!  Vote for your fav!
